About This Product
The Cisco Meraki MR78 is a dual-band, 802.11ax, 2x2:2, cloud-managed entry-level outdoor access point. Designed for basic, medium-density deployments, the MR78 offers enterprise-grade security and straightforward management in a rugged IP67-rated form factor.
The MR78 achieves a maximum aggregate frame rate of 1.5 Gbps* with concurrent 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radios.
Combining cloud management, high-performance hardware, multiple radios, and advanced software features, the MR78 provides a reliable platform for small businesses and home office networks seeking secure and dependable wireless connectivity.
Meraki Cloud Management
The MR78 is managed through the Meraki cloud, featuring an intuitive browser-based interface that allows for quick deployment without extensive training or expensive certifications. Since the MR78 is self-configuring and web-managed, it can be set up remotely within minutes, even without on-site IT staff.
The Meraki cloud provides 24/7 monitoring, offering real-time alerts for any network issues. Remote diagnostic tools enable immediate troubleshooting online, ensuring distributed networks are managed with minimal hassle.
The MR78's firmware is automatically updated via the cloud, delivering new features, security fixes, and enhancements seamlessly. This eliminates the need for manual software updates or concerns about missing security patches.
Dual–radio aggregate frame rate of up to 1.5 Gbps*
The MR78 features 5 GHz and 2.4 GHz radios, each with 2x2:2 configurations, providing a combined dual-radio aggregate frame rate of 1.5 Gbps*. This includes up to 1,201 Mbps in the 5 GHz band and 286 Mbps in the 2.4 GHz band. Technologies such as transmit beamforming and enhanced receive sensitivity enable the MR78 to support a higher client density compared to typical enterprise-class access points, resulting in improved performance for more clients per AP.
*Refers to the maximum over-the-air data frame rate capability of the radio chipset, which may exceed data rates allowed by IEEE 802.11ax operation.
Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO)
The MR78, equipped with 802.11ax features, enhances transmission efficiency to multiple clients through MU-MIMO and UL/DL OFDMA. Ideal for settings with many mobile devices, MU-MIMO allows simultaneous data reception by multiple clients, boosting overall network performance and enhancing user experience.
Automatic cloud-based RF optimisation
The MR78's advanced automated RF optimization eliminates the need for specialized hardware and RF expertise typically necessary for wireless network tuning. RF data is continuously gathered and sent to the Meraki cloud, where it is used to automatically adjust channel selection, transmit power, and client connection settings for optimal performance, even in challenging RF environments.
Integrated enterprise security and guest access
The MR78 incorporates user-friendly security technologies to ensure safe connectivity for both employees and guests. It includes advanced features like AES hardware-based encryption and enterprise-level authentication with 802.1X and Active Directory integration, offering robust security similar to wired networks while remaining easy to set up. Additionally, one-click guest isolation provides secure, internet-only access for visitors, and PCI compliance reports help verify network settings against PCI standards, simplifying secure deployments in retail environments.
Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) & Mobile Device Management (MDM) integration
The MR78 seamlessly integrates with Meraki Systems Manager to provide automatic, context-aware security. With self-service enrollment, Systems Manager enables quick MDM deployment without the need for extra hardware, and it dynamically links firewall and traffic shaping policies to the client's status.
Application-aware traffic shaping
The MR78 features a built-in layer 7 packet inspection, classification, and control engine, allowing for the creation of QoS policies based on traffic type. This helps prioritize essential applications while restricting recreational traffic such as peer-to-peer and video streaming. Policies can be applied at various levels, including network-wide, per SSID, per user group, or per individual user, offering maximum flexibility and control.
Voice and video optimisations
The MR78 includes industry-standard QoS features that are straightforward to configure. Wireless MultiMedia (WMM) access categories, 802.1p, and DSCP standards ensure that critical applications are prioritized correctly across the network, not just on the MR78. Additionally, Unscheduled Automatic Power Save Delivery (U-APSD) and the new Target Wait Time features in 802.11ax clients help minimize battery drain on wireless VoIP phones.
Self-configuring, self-maintaining, always up-to-date
Upon connection, the MR78 automatically links to the Meraki cloud, downloads its configuration, and integrates into the designated network. If new firmware is needed, the access point retrieves and updates it automatically, ensuring the network remains current with bug fixes, security updates, and new features.
Advanced analytics
Delving into network usage details offers highly detailed traffic analytics. Physical world visibility can be improved with journey tracking through location analytics. Metrics such as visitor numbers, dwell time, repeat visit rates, and trend tracking can be easily monitored via the dashboard, with deeper analysis facilitated by raw data accessible through simple APIs.
Bluetooth Low Energy Beacon and scanning radio
A built-in fourth Bluetooth radio enables smooth deployment of BLE Beacon functionality and easy visibility of Bluetooth devices.
